Slice Of Life

Slice Of Life has been super fun and also sometimes  very frustrating. It's fun when I remember to do it,but when I forget I get mad that I have to do it on such short notice.  This was my first time and I'm sad that it's over. I'll miss  slicing my life and reading about other peoples life. I'm glad I got to  participate in this activity.

Dawn's House

One day my said, "I have somewhere to go. So, you and Adi are going to Dawn's house. Megan and Grace are going to babysit you." I was a little nervous and excited at the same time because I like going to Dawn's house, but I had never been to her house without Mommy. When we got there, I was still a little nervous. But, we went downstairs and played with dolls. They have a lot of dolls and doll stuff like crutches, a wheelchair, dogs, and a tv. Me and Adi picked our dolls and started dressing them up. At the end, they looked very pretty. After we made a house with the dolls' beds, a couch, a dinner table, and a bathroom. Then we started to play. When we were done playing downstairs, we played hide and seek. It was hard to find a good hiding place because Megan and Grace lived there and knew all of the good places. They knew where to find us. When we were all done playing, it was time for dinner. Grace had gone and got us chicken. By the time we were done eati

Peak's Island

Every summer, me and my Mimi and Poppy and cousins go to Maine. Last year, we made a list of everything we wanted to do for the time we were there. We were going to do one fun thing every day. Some of the things on list included, Fun Town USA, The Children's Museum, and Peak's Island. I had never been to Peak's Island. You have to go on a ferry boat to get there. So one day, we picked Peak's Island for the day's adventure. We drove to the ferry and it took a long time to wait. Finally, we boarded the boat. There were a lot of people. The boat was huge and even carried cars. People went on too. There was an upstairs, an up upstairs, an inside, and an outside. I was on the bottom but then my Mimi and Poppy took me to the second floor. It was fun but very crowded, so we went back downstairs. When we got back, we were almost there. It was a pretty quick trip. Finally, we got off. Peak's Island is a small but pretty island. There were stands, swimming events, and

My Heart

My mom's friend Tracey did a slice of life today and she wrote something she was grateful for beginning with each letter of the alphabet. My family and I gave it a try for today's slice of life. A: My sister Adi. I like to color with her. Also, Ace, my second oldest cousin. B: Banane-My grandma makes these for us. They are fried plantains and I love them. C: Cartoons and Coco, my uncle who drives me to school. D: Dee...my Auntie. E: Eggs...only when my dad makes them. He makes the best scrambled eggs. F: Family. I feel like I have the best family. G: Grandparents. I love my great grandma, my grandma, and my grandpa. H: Harold, our elf. I: Ida Carey, actually my Mimi. J: Jaxson, my oldest cousin. K: Kerry, this is what my grandma calls my Dad...it's his middle name. L: Love. I love my family. M: Mom and Mimi and Maverick-my twin cousin. We are just six days apart. Also, Molly. She always reads my blog. Maine-where my Mimi and Poppy have a beach hou

Cupcakes

Yesterday, when I was looking for something to do, I found a frosting maker that my Mimi gave me for Christmas. We had never used it before. I came upstairs and asked my mom if we could try it. She said, "Try reading the directions." So I did. Later that day, we went for a long ride in the car, so we didn't have time to make cupcakes. So this morning, we made the cupcake part. We all worked together. I added the flour, Adi added the sugar, and Rose added the milk. My mom added the rest of the ingredients. When my sister woke up from her nap, we started making the frosting. We tried making it from the recipe card, but it came out too watery because we didn't have heavy cream. Milk was not a good substitute. Next, we tried using the powder that came with the unicorn frosting maker. When we tasted it, it was way too sweet. So, we ended up using regular frosting that we already had. We added food coloring and then put it into the unicorn maker. The unicorn wasn't

Painting on the warmest day of the year

Image
Today, when I stepped outside, I was expecting it to be chilly outside. But, it was so warm. I immediately took off my sweatshirt. We got out paint while my mom put some tape on our garden box. Finally, we used different colors and started painting. We painted each section a different color. Of course, I used purple first. It's my favorite color. As I worked, I wondered how the box would look when we were all done. "Maybe we should have given Rose a lighter color to paint with," I said to my mom as I watched Rose messily paint with dark purple paint. Later that day, me, my mom and my sister took off all of the tape. I realized that if we painted the first coat white and then did the sections different colors, maybe it would have looked better. But it still looked good. I'm excited to get our plants in the garden and watch it grow.

Lake Compounds Water Park

Last summer, me and my family took a long drive to go to an amusement park called Lake Compounds. When we got there, we went on a lot of rides. But my favorite part was the water park. There was a big slide, a splash pad, and there was a pool. We didn't get to go in the pool, because someone had an accident.   There was a really big slide and a medium slide. I couldn't go on the big slide because I was too short. I went on the medium slide. We had to cross our legs and our arms. Before I went down the first time, I was a little scared. It made me think of the time my sisters and I put water on our slide at home. Going down the medium slide, that was still pretty big, was fun. But I was still a little scared because I was going so fast. When I got to the bottom, I was surprised because there was a pool. I fell but then I just stood up. I couldn't wait to do it again... but when I got back to get on again, the line was too long. I went to do something else instead.

Writing

Write. Write. Write a book. It will be fun. When you write a book. Writing. Writing. Fix your mistake. Now you have your book. Have fun reading.

Frozen Trouble

''Let's play Frozen Trouble!'' I said one night and my Mom said sure. So I went to get the filters from the freezer that were now filled with ice. They need ice in them because the last one to melt wins. But when I got there the water had tipped over. I was very disappointed. But my Mom said that we could do it another night. Finally it was the perfect time to play and the filters were not empty! We started playing. You have to pop the dices, there are 2 because one has numbers and the other has weather. Sun means squeeze an Olaf for the amount on the dice.Wind means breathe on an Olaf for the amount on the dice. Rain means pour water, ice means go in an ice bath so you don't melt, snow means salt, and Olaf means nothing. My littlest sister, Rose won.But it was still FUN.

Rain Coming down sideways We rush to the window to see What is that? Snow? Hail! The sun emerges A rainbow appears up in the sky.

Staying At Home

Let's go to Mimi's house to pick up Rose'' My Mom said. On the way my Mom said that we do not have to go to school tomorrow. We did a little work like reading, writing, and math. It was so fun. But the next day we didn't have school and there was no google classroom so we did the same thing we did the same thing we did the day before. And it was better the day before.

Paint, paint, paint.

Image
Today my Poppy came over with his dogs, Sugar and Plum. He also had a wooden shelf painted white for me to paint. Then he said, ''Mimi is coming to help paint and she needs to borrow some black paint.'' My Mimi was painting too. Finally she came and she came the whole way by foot. She helped me decide what to paint. I had a few ideas but we made something work. It was a rainbow background and a big ''LOVE''with a little heart in the middle of the O. Finally we were done. It was beautiful.

A Cousin Story

My cousins were back from North Carolina and two of them, Prim and Maverick, wanted to have a sleepover. We waited for them to come over to our house from my Mimi's house. When they finally came, me and Maverick made a Lego Castle. It was a Cinderella Castle and there was a bathroom, a kitchen, a bedroom, a dining room, a magic room, a glass slipper room, and a napping room. Some parts were very difficult, like making the base. Other parts, were pretty easy. I liked having my cousin here to work with. He is very good at Legos.

Hungry Hippos

Image
We wanted to play Frozen Trouble tonight. But we got the Frozen Olaf's from the freezer, we noticed that the water had spilled. There wasn't any ice. "Dad! You didn't fill these up with water!" I yelled.  My mom said, "We can play a different game." I still didn't think that there was a game cooled than Frozen Trouble. My sisters and I went downstairs to find a different game. We looked and looked and we found Labyrinth. My mom said, "That will be too difficult for your sisters." So I stomped downstairs. A few minutes later we came back up with Hungry Hippos. My mom read the directions. Then we started to play. We launched the balls and pressed the hippo levers that opens the mouths. The balls were shaking and shaking. We played two ways ways, the person who gets the most balls wins and the person who gets the golden ball wins. My sister was being very competitive. So, I tried to play easy. But really, I didn't know how. We kep

Turtle Eggs

"It's going to be a nice day," my mom said. We looked outside and noticed a vulture sitting on our lamppost. "That's weird," we thought. A little later when we went outside we realized why the vulture was there. Near the bushes at the edge of our patio, we saw a snapping turtle. We had seen the same turtle in our yard for two days. We thought it had left, but then that morning, we saw it again. It was sitting in my mom's lavender. It looked like it was digging a hole. We all watched. After a while, it starting putting it's stomach in the hole. My dad went to get a shovel, to move the turtle out of our yard. While he was in the garage, we noticed something coming out of the turtle's belly. "He's laying eggs!" I yelled.  My mom and dad ran to watch with us. We all say more eggs popping out. Every time the turtle laid an egg, it used it's foot to push the egg further into the hole it had made. We watched this for a long tim

The Trip to Maine

One night  my mom said ''Pack a bag of toys for the ride to the beach house." We were going to be in the car for 4 hours! Me and my sisters also got a snack for the ride. In the morning we rushed into our car with our bags. It took a while to get all of the bags in the car but we did it. We made a few stops to the toilet and one to get gum. When we got back we got back in the car we watched a movie because we have a TV in our car. At one point my sisters and I fell asleep! When we woke up there were only four minutes before we were there. Finally we got there and it was the best ride ever!

My Cousin call

'' Let's call Jaxson for his birthday!''My mom called. Jaxson is my cousin that lives in North Carolina. We rushed into the kitchen. ''Dingggggg'' the phone beeped but they did not answer so we tried again and they answered. We asked to see the birthday boy.''Happy Birthday!'' I said when I saw him.He told me all about his day. When we where done talking I let him talk to my parents . And then I talked to two of my other cousins Maverick and Prim. I talked about Lego sets and my sisters.  Next I said hi to my other cousin Ace.    Finally I tried to talk to my littlest cousin Stone but he can't talk just yet.  It is so fun to talk to my cousins!

Vacation Writing

Today Spring Break starts...but my mom said we still have to read and write and do math every day since she still has to work. So today, I looked at a Google Classroom from her school and watched a lesson from second grade. They were starting a Realistic Fiction writing unit, so I started a realistic fiction story. Here is what I wrote so far... Chapter One: The Dog Park Ally and Sid are brother and sister. (I just added that part in...my mom mentioned that she was wondering how Ally and Sid were related.) They have a dog named Max. One sunny day Ally and Sid said, "It's a great day to bring Max to the dog park." Max is a greyhound puppy and he loves puppy treats. When he heard dog park, his ears popped up. When they got to the dog park, lots of other dogs were playing. Ally and Sid saw their friends Rebecca and Jack. They left Max playing with some other dogs. While they were talking, Max ran off into the woods. That's all I have for now. I'll add m

Dirt Cake

Today, I made dirt cake for Easter. You may be thinking "Dirt cake?!?" Yes, dirt cake and it's not made with real dirt, which makes it delicious. First, my sister crushed up some Oreos. She used a rolling pin and her hands...she even sat on them. Don't worry, they were in a bag. While she was doing that, my mom was putting ingredients to make the next layer. I did the stirring. We mixed together pudding, milk, Cool Whip, and powdered sugar. Now, we were almost done. My sister Rose could only think of eating the dirt cake. So, my mom let us each lick a mixing tool-while she put the cake together. It was delicious. We finally got to eat the dirt cake after we delivered Easter Dinner to my Mimi and my Grandma's. It so good. I'm glad there are leftovers and we can have more tomorrow.

Easter Delivery

Image
Last Easter, I had a great idea. A few days before Easter, I told my mom my idea. "Maybe the night before Easter, we could deliver cookies to Grandmas and Mimi and Poppy's houses." I helped my mom bake cookies the very next day. I also made some cards with dot paint, tape, and markers. When everything was ready, we were ready for Easter. Finally, it was the day before Easter and my dad brought me and my sister Adi in the car to deliver cookies...we were going to make surprise deliveries! The first house was my Mimi and Poppy's house. It was hard because they had company at their house. I carefully walked up to the porch while Adi stayed with my Dad, she was scared. I gently put the bag of cookies into the mailbox. I raced back to the car thinking, "Mimi will be so surprised when she opens the mailbox!" Next, we went to Great Grandma's house. This time, my sister wanted to come out with me because my Grandma has the kind of mailbox that stands on

The Rainbow Window

Image
One afternoon, my mom showed us pictures of people putting rainbows on their window. She said, "We could make rainbow hearts on our window." First, we got some rainbow colored paper-red, dark orange, light orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. My mom made us stencils and we drew hearts Then, it was time to cut them out. My sister, Adi, wanted me to cut them because she liked my cutting better than hers. Finally, we brought all of the hearts to my mom, one color at a time. We helped her tape them on the window. We started by making them big to little, and my mom said it would turn into a triangle. So we added a few hearts onto each end. Now it looked like heart rainbow on the window. My sister also realized that the tape would be on the side that people see, but my mom said that would be ok. When it was done, it looked really pretty. We were proud of our work and hope people who pass by also enjoy our rainbow.

Good Steak

"Tell us a story, Dad!" my sisters and I cried as we walked up to bed. It took my Dad two minutes to think of a story. Then he started... "When I was little I used to have a babysitter, named Thelma. Thelma was a really good cook," he added. "One night she made me and the other kids some steak, macaroni, and carrots." My dad told us the steak was SO GOOD that when he was playing, all he could think about was how good that steak was. When he was trying to go bed, he could only think of how good that steak was. He walked into the hall, while Thelma was watching TV. He snuck into the kitchen was the steak was still on the counter. Then he cut a piece and put it in his mouth. He took one bite and swallowed the steak. Then, he began to choke. He went to the sink because he thought water would push the steak down. But when he turned on the sink, the steak just popped out. Now, my sisters and I love to ask my Dad to tell us this story. It makes us lau

Family Bingo

One school day, when it was time to go home, there was a note in my mailbox that said, Family Bingo. I couldn't wait to tell my mom. Finally, it was Family Bingo night. After dinner, I rushed to the car. I didn't want to be late. When we got there, we went to the gymnasium. There were lots of tables set up and two teachers at the front of the stage, calling numbers. We sat down and waited for the games to begin. The first game was up, down, or sideways. We had a lot of bingo cards to keep track of. It was kind of tricky. Every time a number was called, we all got closer and closer to have a straight row. I really wanted to be able to yell out, "Bingo!" So, the game kept going until my dad finally shouted, "BINGO!" I raced up to the stage to pick a prize. When I got back to our table, my little sister, Adi, was really grumpy. She wanted to win too. We had to clear our cards and start a new game. Before the new game started, our assistant principal s

When I Lost My First TWO Teeth

In the winter when I was five, when I came home from school, I discovered that my tooth was wiggly. It was one of my front teeth on the bottom. I was so excited because it was my first wiggly tooth. For weeks and weeks, my mom kept telling me, "Don't wiggle your tooth." She was afraid and didn't want it to come out. All that time had passed and my second front tooth on the bottom was now wiggly too. My new grown up teeth were even growing in behind my baby teeth. When both of my teeth got really wiggly, my mom kept offering to take them out, but I didn't want her to. One cloudy morning, I was at my Mimi's house before school. "It's time for breakfast," Mimi shouted. I sat at the table waiting for my cereal. Finally, it was time for me to eat. I was so hungry. I ate so fast that I didn't realize that my tooth came out. When I was done eating, I realized that my tooth had fallen into my cereal! My Mimi had to use a spoon to scoop my tooth o

The Drive

Yesterday, it was Sunday.  I went for a drive with my Mom, Dad and my two sisters. We decided to go for a drive because we needed to get out of the house. I had hardly been out of the house in almost a month and only been in the car a few times. "Where are we going?" my sisters and I asked my parents. Mom said, "We're just going for a drive. We aren't going anywhere." I was thinking about what we would see on the drive and I pictured us being out for a really long time. When we were driving, we went on a bridge. It was fun because it went up and down. I was thinking about when I went on my first roller coaster, called Crazy Mouse. After a short ride, we turned around. My younger sisters were being crazy. They weren't big fans of the drive. We watched a Power Ranger movie the whole way home. I felt so happy we got to get out of the house.

Matilda

Image
When we first started to have to stay home all the time, my mom brought home a copy of Matilda from her school library. We have been reading it for about three weeks. We usually read it before bed. A few days ago, when we got closer to the end of the book, my mom said, "When we're done, there is a movie." I kept asking my mom to read, even when it wasn't bedtime. Today, I was sad in the afternoon. My mom said, "We could read Matilda ." While we were reading, there were a couple of surprises that made me feel excited about reading the next chapter. I wanted to keep reading because I couldn't wait to what those surprises did to the characters. I also couldn't wait to find out what happened at the end because usually at the end of books there are surprises. Tonight at dinner, my mom read the last two chapters. We thought about what kind of people the characters were. We all agreed that Matilda's parents were selfish and mean. I feel like Mati

Easter Egg Tree

Image
Today I went for a walk with my family. On the way home my mom said, "When we get home would you like to put the eggs on the tree?" "Yes!" we said back as we raced towards home. So when we got home my mom got some Easter eggs and me and her started tying some knots while my sisters snapped the string onto the eggs. Finally it was time to put them on the tree. Adi my sister just ran inside because she was scared of the bees. My mom said, ''Go inside," because she didn't want the bees to sting us. We watched from the door as my mom finished hanging the eggs on the tree. I was happy we got to do the tree.

Playing Charades

"Can we watch a show?" my sisters and I asked my parents. My mom said, "No." But she told us we had a new game called Charades. We agreed to play. I asked to be the first person to go. Charades is a game where you pick a card and you have to act out what the card says. My first card said, "Choosing what to wear." I tried to think about what it looks like when I choose what to wear. I thought it would be hard to act out, but I held my arms up like, "I don't know." Then I pointed to my clothes. "Wearing a gown!" my mom called. Dad yelled, "Getting dressed." Adi just laughed and laughed. No one got it. I finally had to tell them. We all took turns. When it was Adi's turn, she just laughed the whole time. Rose even took a turn. She kept whispering "superman" even though her card said "throwing a ball to a dog!" We had a lot of fun. I just want to play again. Mom said,"Maybe tomorro

The SandCastle

Image
Every summer me, my cousins and my mimi and poppy go to Maine. One day my older cousin said "Lets make a big sandcastle!''And so we got a big bucket and filled it up with wet sand and then dumped it out but the sandcastle was broken. So we tried again and it wasn't broken! Next we all got a little bucket and we filled them up. At last it was time to make the stream. Since we were close to the water we didn't need to fill it up with water. When you dig close to the water, it fills up all by itself.  Finally it was time to decorate the sandcastle. It was hard to find decorations. There aren't that many shells at that beach. We tried our best and we found just enough things, like rocks, sticks, and seaweed. When we were done, we sat on a log near our castle and took a picture. We felt proud of our sandcastle.

April fools

Last year, when I was in first grade, on April Fool's Day, our class visited another first grade class while they were at a special. My teacher, Mrs. Farley said, "Let's go April Fool Ms. Williams' class. When we got there, my friend flipped over all of the flexible seating, even the pillows! When we went back to our own class, Mrs. Williams' class was hiding in the cubbies. They jumped out when we came into the room and scream "BOO!" They scared us.  This morning, when I came downstairs after waking up, my mom had flipped over our kitchen chairs. Some of the chairs were even on the table. Seeing the chairs flipped over made me think of last year's April Fool's Day. It made me miss school.
